What is LBDI?

The Little Black Dress Initiative (LBDI) is a week-long awareness and fundraising campaign that harnesses the power of social media to illustrate the restrictions that poverty places on choices, opportunities, and access to resources.

Since its launch in London in 2014, over 80 Junior Leagues have replicated the initiative in their own communities, collectively sparking countless conversations and raising hundreds of thousands of dollars in support of important community programs. JLGNF adopted the campaign the following year, becoming one of the very first Leagues in the United States to take it on.

How does JLGNF impact the community?

LBDI Advocates wear one black dress (or outfit) for five consecutive days. This year the Advocates will take to their social media pages from April 24-28 to post themselves with their #AskMeAboutMyDress pins along with statistics about poverty and its impact in our community. Members will then direct their network to their individual donation pages. Those funds, combined with that of the League’s donation page, will go to support JLGNF’s programs and initiatives.

JLGNF is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
